Binoculars are a fantastic tool for bringing the world closer. A good pair enables us to look at things in magnificent and unprecedented detail and clarity. Carl Zeiss binoculars are renowned as being amongst the finest quality binoculars in the world.

Many of us would agree that in life the present is more important than the past, yet despite this we seem to have an almost habitual tendency to sacrifice the real-time pleasure of an experience by taking masses of photographs to be admired at a later date. Unfortunately, by this point the other sensory aspects of that experience (such as sound and smell) cannot be recreated adequately, and thus we are left wanting in our ability to relive that experience authentically. The answer to this problem? Don't try to!

On that basis, I'd much rather take in as much as I can from an experience as it actually happens, and believe that a wonderful first-hand memory far outweighs the enjoyment of looking at piles of amateur photographs which are often of less than pleasing quality. This is where binoculars shine through! A good quality pair offers us the ability to view whatever sights tickle our fancy in real-time, greater detail and with comfort and ease.

Whether you're looking to visit the theatre, a live sports event, watch a music concert, or simply admire landscapes, wildlife and architecture, you can be sure to find the perfect companion in the Carl Zeiss binoculars range to help you get more from your experiences.

The company (then "Carl Zeiss Jena", now named "Carl Zeiss AG") was founded by and named after Carl Zeiss - a German optician who lived from September 11th 1800 until December 3rd 1888.

Although Zeiss himself originally specialised in making lenses for microscopes, his company later expanded into the manufacture of lenses for other products such as rifle scopes, binoculars, cameras and telescopes — not to mention a myriad of different machines and devices used in the corporate sector.

The aim of this website is to provide clear information and guidance on the features of various Carl Zeiss binoculars, and aid you in making a better purchase decision.

The 2 main lines in the Zeiss binoculars range

Zeiss currently manufacture 2 main models of binoculars, known as the Victory range and the Conquest range.

The Zeiss Victory range are their top-of-the-line, most sophisticated and highest quality binoculars, aimed at the professional or more serious user. The Zeiss Conquest range, whilst still high quality, are cheaper and for the less serious or more budget conscious binocular user.

Dissecting the model numbers

If you're a relative newbie to the world of binoculars, you like many other people may well be wondering what in the world all the numbers (for example: 10×25) mean within the model names. Well, have no fear - it's really rather simple.

The first number is actually an indication of the magnification level of that pair of binoculars. For instance the number 10 in the above example would mean that particular pair of binoculars brings everything 10 times closer than what it would be when seen through the human eye. Binoculars can and do come in a range of magnification levels, and obviously the higher the number / magnification level, the closer things will appear through your binoculars and the further you'll be able to see.

The second number (25 in the above example) is an indication of the size of the objective lens, measured in millimetres (mm). Quite simply - the bigger the number, the bigger the lens. Binoculars with a bigger lens let in more light than those with a smaller lens, and thus will generally provide a brighter and overall better viewing experience. The drawback of course is an increase in the bulk and weight you would be subjected to carrying around.

Bear this essential piece of information in mind when deciding on which pair of binoculars to buy, because there are a number of different combinations within the Carl Zeiss binoculars range and you want to make sure you choose the one that serves your needs correctly.
